Discontinued Support of Windows 98 and ME

Date Posted: January 10, 2008

After careful deliberation, the BTInet Help Desk has decided to discontinue support of the Windows 98 and ME Operating Systems effective February 1, 2008. This decision is based in part on the following information:

  • Microsoft has discontinued product support of Windows 98 and ME as of July 11, 2006. According to Microsoft, support of these Operating Systems was discontinued because Windows 98 and ME "are outdated and can expose customers to security risks." Also, many computer vendors have or are in the process of no longer providing support of Windows 98 or ME.
  • We understand that there is more time and effort involved in upgrading the Operating System of your computer then it is to update the browser. However, BTInet provided notification on March 28, 2007, that the Help Desk will be offering limited support of these Operating Systems. To better focus on supporting the more current Windows 2000, XP, and Vista, it is necessary to now discontinue support of Window 98 and ME.

What does this mean to you?

If you haven't already, it is strongly recommended that you consider upgrading your Windows Operating System to a more current and up-to-date version.

We apologize for any inconvenience this decision may cause you; however, we do feel that this is a necessary step for us to provide the best possible level of support as well as an overall enjoyable Internet experience for our customers.
