How to Disable Idle Disconnect

If you are experiencing problems getting disconnected from the internet, you can try to Disable Idle Disconnect.

Windows ME

  1. Double Click My Computer
  2. Click Dial-Up Networking
  3. Right Click on your Dialer Icon
  4. Click Properties
  5. Click on the Dialing Tab
  6. Uncheck Enable idle disconnect
  7. Click OK

Windows 2000

  1. Double Click My Computer
  2. Click Network and Dial-Up Connections 
  3. Right Click on your Dialer Icon
  4. Click Properties
  5. Click on the Options Tab
  6. Set Idle time before hanging up to never 
  7. Click OK

Windows XP

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Connect to
  3. Right Click on your Dialer
  4. Click Properties
  5. Click on the Options Tab
  6. Set Idle time before hanging up to never
  7. Click OK

Windows Vista
There are two places to make this change in Windows Vista; Dialer Properties and Internet Options.

Windows Vista Dialer Properties

  1. Click Start
    Click Control Panel
  2. If set to Control Panel Home
    - Click Network & Internet
    - Click Network and Sharing Center
    If set to Classic View
    - Double Click Network and Sharing Center
  3. Click Manage network connections
  4. Right Click your BTInet Dialer
  5. Click Properties
  6. Click on the Options tab
  7. Set Idle time before hanging up to never
  8. Click OK

Windows Vista Internt Options

  1. Click Start
    Click Control Panel
  2. If set to Control Panel Home
    - Click Network & Internet
    - Click Internet Options
    If set to Classic View
    - Click Internet Options
  3. On the Options tab, Click the Settings button
  4. Click the Advanced button
  5. Un-check Disconnect if idle for (20) minutes
  6. Click OK
  7. Click OK
  8. Click OK
