Your mailbox on our server can hold up to 1 GB worth of e-mail messages. When your mail on our server exceeds 1 GB you will receive an email from postmaster@btinet.net stating, “Your mail quota has been exceeded.” Our server will also reject new messages sent to you and the sender will receive a rejection notice stating your mailbox is full until you remove enough messages to get below the 1 GB limit. This article will assist you in keeping your mail under the 1 GB limit.
Please remember to check your e-mail on a regular basis to download any new messages you may have received. Downloading your messages on a regular basis will keep your mailbox on the server smaller, making it easier to download new messages before they become to large. The more mail you have on the server, the longer it will take you to download your messages.
If your Netscape Mail or Outlook Express is set to “Leave Messages on Server”, you will need to either “Use Webmail to View and Delete Messages in Your Mailbox” or Change your mail settings to no longer leave messages on server.
Change Mail Settings for Netscape 6.x or 7.x
Change Mail Settings for Outlook Express 5 or 6
Change Mail Settings for Windows Mail
Please remember to check your mail on a regular basis and delete unwanted message before your mailbox reaches quota. Keep in mind that after you delete a message you need to empty the trash to permanently remove the message from the server by clicking on Folder in the upper left hand corner and clicking the "Empty Trash" button.
If you wish to save messages you are currently storing in Webmail, Article WBM009 in the FAQ will show you how to back up your Webmail Folders.
If you feel you need more than 1 GB of space on the mail server, you can purchase additional space on a monthly basis. E-mail sales@btinet.net, or call our business office at (701) 255-5151 or (800) 287-2810 to request additional space and costs involved.
