Article SPAM12

What does Whitelist and Blacklist mean and how do I use this feature?

Definition

  • Whitelist - This list of senders bypass the BTInet Spam Filter, even if the message matches Spam rules. Virus scanning and Banned Attachment blocking are still applied. Whitelisting may be performed by full e-mail address ("user@btinet.net"), domain only ("btinet.net"), or domain portion ("net").
  • Blacklist - This list of senders are blocked, regardless of content, unless a whitelist entry is also present. Blocking may be performed by full e-mail address ("user@btinet.net"), domain only ("btinet.net"), or domain portion ("net").

Use

After logging into the Spam Filter, either through the link in your Quarantine Summary e-mail or through the login page, click on the Preferences tab at the top of the page.

Under the Whitelist/Blacklist button, enter the full e-mail address or domain, e.g. btinet.net, to the Whitelist for senders you want to receive e-mail from; or, the Blacklist for senders you do not want to receive e-mail from, and click the Add button.
