Domain Structure for Business/Corporate Sites
For BTInet customers who have their own domain hosted with us (i.e. www.mydomain.com), this is a description of your domain structure as well as information for FrontPage users and file formats supported.
Domain Directory Structure
Note: If you use Microsoft FrontPage as a design/maintenance tool but use another FTP program to upload files to your site, refer to the following information. If you use FrontPage to upload files to your site, please read the
FrontPage Users section below.
The structure for BTInet-hosted Web sites includes the following three directories at your domain root:
- cgi-bin: The cgi-bin directory is where you store your CGI and perl scripts (read more about scripts).
- htdocs: The htdocs directory is where you put your viewable files that make up your Web site, such as your html files and graphic images.
- logs: The logs directory is where we keep the access log file for your site. This file represents all traffic to your site, including from where, when, which files were accessed as well as user system information. This file is used to generate your stats.html page.
FrontPage Users
Note: If you use Microsoft FrontPage as a design/maintenance tool but use another FTP program to upload changes to your site, refer to the Domain Directory Structure section above. If you use FrontPage to upload files to your Web site, note the following:
- When publishing your Web files, they will automatically be placed in the appropriate directory.
- FrontPage users do not have access to their site's cgi-bin due to limitations in the Microsoft FrontPage application.
All Users: File Formats Supported
Besides the general HTML file formats, BTInet-hosted domains also include support for the following file formats:
Finally, just a reminder: BTInet does not have the resources to be involved in the conception, support or development of your Web site beyond ensuring that the server is functioning as intended.
